If you’re a big enough history nerd to know (and love) Streamline Moderne architecture of the Art Deco era (yes, that’s a niche within a niche), then you’ll love Club Moderne, a new San Francisco bar done up in that style. Don’t know what Streamline Moderne is? Think of the Chrysler Building or the Talbot-Lago teardrop coupe (the most beautiful car ever produced).
Vibrant colors, mirrors, chrome accents and great art deco wall sconces contributed to the bar’s style that make it one of the most welcoming and brightly lit bars in San Francisco.
Club Moderne hosted the Art Deco Society of California for a lovely evening of drinks and conversation, and we’re all going back on Friday 2/13/15 for the first installment of Deco Drinks, a fantastic idea nicked from LA Art Deco Society’s ‘Cocktails in Historic Places’. Join us! Here are some photos from our previous engagement!
Jim Callahan of Piedmont Piano in a nice pinstripe suit, fantastic tie, and Packard Eight lapel pin – it’s in the details gentlemen!
His date is in a black brocade suit with cute bows over the box pleats on her jacket.
I liked all three of these outside shots of Joe DiPietro in probably my favorite outfit of the evening, wearing a black pinstripe suit, pink shirt with white spread false collar, bowler hat, matching tie & pocket square, AND that’s his amazing square pocket watch below – well done!
Theresa LaQuey walked around in a lovely black & white jacket with a little red showing above the lapels, and occasionally slid that off to reveal a gorgeous bright red dress! I hear you can find outfits this incredible when you design them yourself!
I didn’t know how much I wanted a square watch until I saw Joe’s. I’ll keep the identities of the purse-owners secret, I don’t want any trouble, and neither do they, see.
In addition to all the pinstripes, we had lots of browns. Jeffrey combined both with a great suit and perfect fedora with a turned-down brim. Kimberly was in a brown crepe dress with great teal accents in the beading and ‘hidden’ second layers. Lynn, designer of this lovely place, is wearing a nice houndstooth tweed and matching tie.
Other-Jeffrey is also a fan favorite, in a very elusive turquoise blue pinstripe suit. They’re so hard to find, but stand out so well as an Art Deco era suit! I shot close-ups of the fabric, and you can just barely make out the super-fine rows of pinstriping in-between the heavier stripes. He’s done up in a great tie and pocket square, and contrasting tan fedora that ties it alltogether.
Liz is in a purple Fully Hand-Knit Dress (!) with removable (or so I hear) beaded back panel, dove-grey gloves, and a stellar black and maroon hat.
Leland went full-collegiate in a navy blazer, cream flannel trousers, vertical striped tie, collegiate scarf, and a boater. He’s also a bit of a ham.
Sarah is in a very art deco styled sequined dress that I kept looking at from different angles. Tom is in a nice tan nubby wool suit, and Summer is in a pretty linen soft pink dress under a nice warm coat that used to be several animals’ nice warm coats a very long time ago.
Jim and his date pulling away in his beautiful yellow convertible automobile.
